Game Recap

It was playoff football this past Friday at Panther stadium and the fans of both schools were treated to an outstanding high school football contest with the Panthers of Comstock Park pulling out thrilling come from behind victory 31-28 with Nathan Hughes providing the margin of victory with a 38 yard field goal with 12 seconds remaining in the game. Coopersville completely dominated the first half, taking a 28-6 lead into the locker room at halftime. The second was a different story, CP open the half by taking the second half kick-off and marching down the field and scoring a run by Jo Jo Whitley, his second of the game. After Coopersville missed a field goal the Panthers drove again, this time with Cameron Martin scoring on a 48 yard run cutting the lead to 28-20. Midway into the fourth quarter Hunter Spence found the end zone on 3 yard run and CP then converted a 2 point play on a pass from Chase Brown to Logan Brower to tie the game at 28. After an exchange of fumbles gave the ball to the Panthers on the 1 yard late in the game. CP drove the ball down the field, lead by the running of QB Chase Brown and a couple of big catches by Cameron Martin and Logan Serba the Panthers moved the ball into field goal range for kicker Nathan Hughes who delivered with a 38 yard kick that would have been good from 50 yards. Congrats to an Coopersville on an outstanding season, making the play-offs for the first time since 2008. CP moves on to the district final as it will travel to Belding for a Friday night game against the Black Knights. Chase Brown ended the night with 205 yard passing and 56 yards rushing, Jo Jo Whitley chipped in with 113 yards rushing and 2 TD’s , Cameron Martin had 7 carries for 73 yards and a TD. Hunter Spence and Logan Serba lead the receiver group with 8 and 6 catches respectfully. Chanse Crittendon and Martin added interceptions with Aidan Martin coming up with the big fumble recovery on the goal line late in the game for a Panther defense that pitched a shout-out in the second half.
