Comstock Park’s JV soccer team ended their season in style with a 1-0 shutout win over the Sparta Spartans Thursday night at Panther Stadium. The score at halftime was 0-0, thanks in large part to great defense from Panther defensemen Dakota Harig, Connor Young, and Drew “The Bird” Garthe. The Sparta goalkeeper was also doing his job in the first half by blocking several shots by Jacob Vanden Toorn, Lake Serba, Levi Zoller, and Kyle Bixler.
With game still scoreless in the second half, Andrew Contreras kicked a corner kick and watched the ball sail in front of the Sparta goalkeeper. Mitchell Brussels found the loose ball and passed to Levi Zoller, who would get just enough on a shot to get it past the Sparta goalie. With the score 1-0, Sparta tried desperately to get a late goal, but Smith Sanchez was too strong in goal and denied several shots to pick up his first shutout win as a goalie for the Panthers.
